George Fox Friends School - Infant and Toddler ProgramWe believe that infants and toddlers learn best in the context of a nurturing environment. Social & Emotional Development Infants and toddlers have an instinctive need to feel secure with a special person who responds to them in a caring and sensitive way. From having cuddle time to teaching, we nurture every aspect of our toddlers developing selves. Children witness peaceful conflict resolution strategies and develop positive social skills. Cognitive Development Infants and toddlers learn best by doing. Children involved in play are encouraged in problem-solving, self-care skills, fine motor development, and interaction with their peers. Through on-going exploration, cognitive growth flourishes and the young child’s brain is exercised. Teachers provide ever-changing hands-on learning opportunities for children to play and interact with the environment. Language Development Rich literature is the core of our program. Through exposure to books children develop an interest in reading. From our babies who enjoy mouthing books, to our toddlers who find great joy in turning the pages and pointing out familiar objects on each page, teachers encourage the children to explore and enjoy books. Toddlers go through a “vocabulary explosion.” New words are spoken everyday. New vocabulary is introduced through play and conversation. Children delight in singing songs, learning rhymes, finger plays, and poems. Motor Development Crayons and paper, paint brush and paint, dolls, nesting toys, cars, blocks, and play dough all provide opportunities for fine motor development. Pouring, scooping, squeezing, grasping, and holding are encouraged! Weekly themes develop skills in using scissors, lacing beads, exploring magnetic blocks, and participating in center activities.Chester*Main Site (GEORGE FOX FRIENDS SCHOOL)George Fox Friends School

Kardon Institute for Arts Therapy - Early InterventionAllows parents to be involved in early arts interventions for their infants and toddlers with special needs, along with typically developing children. Action and purposeful movement in a relational context appear to be the building blocks of developmental change and are of relevance for cognitive change. In this case, the structure is musical and has the advantage of flexibility. The capabilities of each child, no matter how limited, are brought into the mutual realm of musical relationship with the parent and therapist, are open to variety and, thereby, development. Music has demonstrated success with this population in facilitating socialization, self-expression and language development.PhiladelphiaKardon Institute for Arts Therapy - Philadelphia; Northeast PhiladelphiaKardon Institute for Arts Therapy
