Lancaster County Solid Waste Management AuthorityPerforms the following services and maintains these facilities: - Recycling: LCSWMA assists municipalities, businesses and other institutions with starting and maintaining their recycling programs. LCSWMA’s three Lancaster facilities have 24/7 recycling drop-off areas for the following materials: glass bottles and jars, aluminum and steel cans, plastic bottles, and newspapers (including office paper and magazines). The Transfer Station Complex also accepts cardboard. - Transfer Station Complex: Located on Harrisburg Pike in Lancaster. A central location for the transfer of trash for end disposal (waste-to-energy facility or landfill). Accessible to commercial haulers and residents. Also has a recycling drop-off center and Household Hazardous Waste Facility for items such as paint, computers, televisions, batteries, etc. - Household Hazardous Waste Facility: Located at the Transfer Station Complex on Harrisburg Pike in Lancaster, LCSWMA accepts household hazardous waste materials from residents in Lancaster County. Accepted materials include: automotive fluids, batteries, cooking oils, fire extinguishers, fuels, household cleaners, lawn treatments, paint, mercury containing items (limit 30 per month), computers, televisions and other select electronic waste. Some unacceptable items include any empty containers, radioactive waste, explosives and ammunition. The facility is open Monday-Friday, 7am - 4pm; Saturday, 8am - 12pm. - Lancaster Waste-to-Energy Facility: Located on River Road in Bainbridge (Conoy Township). Mass burn waste-to-energy facility. Heat from the burning of waste is converted to electricity. Has the capacity to power 30,000 homes. Also has a recycling drop-off center. - Frey Farm Landfill: Located on River Road in Conestoga (Manor township). A double-lined landfill for primarily construction/demolition waste, residual waste, ash residue, and a very small amount of refuse (trash). The facility has numerous monitoring systems to protect the environment. Also has a recycling drop-off center. - Landfill Gas Plant: Located at the Frey Farm Landfill and (closed) Creswell Landfill. Landfill gas is captured and conveyed to a landfill gas-to-energy plant where it is combusted to generate electricity. Has the capacity to power 2,400 homes. - Turkey Point Wind Project: Located at the Frey Farm Landfill site, on a non-operational portion of the landfill. Two 1.6 megawatt (MW) wind turbines capture wind energy and convert to electricity for neighboring Turkey Hill Dairy. Project produces enough power to make about 5-6 million gallons of ice cream each year. - Susquehanna Resource Management Complex: Located on 19th in Harrisburg. Mass burn waste-to-energy facility. Heat from the burning of waste is converted to electricity. Has the capacity to power about 15,000 homes. York-Adams Pharmaceuticals Stewardship Alliance, YAPSACreate a broad-based stakeholder forum and network to identify and share strategies and resources about proper pharmaceutical and personal care products use and disposal. The goal of the network is to increase awareness and knowledge and positively influence attitudes leading to behavior changes, responsible pharmaceutical an person care product use, proper disposal and protection of human health and the environment.
