County-wide emergency mental health services, available 24 hours a day, provide immediate help for persons experiencing a mental health emergency or emotional crisis. The Service provides quick response-either in person or by phone-for assessment, support, guidance and counseling during a mental health emergency. The purpose of the emergency intervention is to provide assessment and stabilization of a mental health crisis situation and to refer to appropriate treatment services to begin to resolve the problems. The initial assessment may occur in the office or on a mobile outreach visit to the client's residence, police station, emergency room or social service agency. The Service also provides for voluntary psychiatric hospitalization referral. Gatekeepers, who include neighbors, ministers, police, teachers and others, receive QPR Gatekeeper Training, three simple steps for suicide prevention (Question, Persuade, and Refer).
