    Programs that provide emotional support, information and guidance in a variety of settings for individuals who have a disability; who are concerned about or have any of a variety of illnesses, including those that may ultimately be fatal; or who have experienced the disabling or disfiguring effects of an illness, injury or surgery. The counseling may deal with the realities of having a disability or being ill, coping with their illness/disability, life adjustments required by their situation, and helping them evaluate their alternatives and make personal choices that will maximize their ability to function independently. Included are programs that provide counseling for individuals who have a family history of a particular health condition or disability and need assistance in coping with the emotional problems that are associated with having or being at risk for developing the condition.

    Central Behavioral Health - Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)The goal of the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is to help individuals diagnosed with serious mental illness to recover hopes and dreams for self-determination, build the strengths and skills necessary, and take steps towards achieving these dreams. To achieve these goals, the IOP will empower participants to support their own recovery, cope more effectively with and manage their symptoms, prevent relapse, manage stress in healthy ways, and strengthen social relationships. The IOP will provide group therapy, as well as linkages to individual therapy and psychiatric services for medication management, with a focus on hope, empowerment, choice, and partnership. Specialized clinical resources for people who have experienced trauma and/or who have substance abuse disorders will address the particular needs of these participants. Specialized clinical resources for young adults and those with developmental disabilities will address these participants’ particular needs.     Hahnemann University Hospital - Cancer Support ServicesServices include: - Look Good Feel Better -- A program that teaches beauty techniques to women who are actively undergoing cancer treatment to help them combat the appearance-related side effects of radiation and chemotherapy. This program is a partnership of the American Cancer Society, the National Cosmetology Association and the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association Foundation. Meets second Monday of every other month (except July and August), 1-3 p.m., Bobst Conference Room, 6th Floor. - The Wellness Community of Philadelphia offers a weekly support group at Hahnemann in addition to mind/body programs and social events. The Wellness Community also has an on-site Resource Center at Hahnemann. Meets every Tuesday, 10-11:30 a.m., Radiation Oncology Conference Room, 1st Floor Feinstein. - Nutritional Services -- A registered dietitian is available to patients and their families for one to one dietary consultations. A series of patient education workshops offer assistance for coping with the nutritional side effects of cancer treatments.
