Programs that integrate treatment strategies associated with psychiatry, occupational therapy and psychiatric case management to help severely mentally ill individuals stabilize their clinical status, increase their ability to function within their environment with as little ongoing professional intervention as possible, and improve their overall quality of life. Services are provided within an intensive case management system and may include medication and supportive psychotherapy to alleviate symptoms; training in interpersonal and independent living skills with a focus on personal care and management, leisure skills, social interaction skills and vocational preferences and aptitudes; cognitive retraining; family psychoeducation; peer support; and assistance in gaining access to the resources and benefits to which they are entitled. The individual is actively involved in developing the treatment plan and selecting the types of training that will be relevant to his or her ongoing roles and relationships.

Montgomery County Emergency Services - Inpatient RecoveryThe MCES Inpatient Program provides crisis intervention, comprehensive assessment, short-term intensive psychiatric treatment, medical assessment, and discharge planning services to individuals and their family members. Treatment Team MCES uses a multidisciplinary treatment team approach for all its clients. AA is also provided. - Individual Psychotherapy/Counseling: Sessions are held daily with a psychiatrist, psychologist and/or nursing staff. - Family/Couples Therapy: Therapy is provided by the Psychology and Psychiatry Departments when indicated. - Educational Groups: The groups are run by the clinical disciplines with an emphasis on relapse prevention, wellness and recovery. - Allied Therapy: This work involves comprehensive programming utilizing creative arts, recreational and educational groups. They provide: - Comprehensive evaluation utilizing state of the art diagnostic tools including referrals to specialty consultants. - Leadership to the multidisciplinary treatment teams in the formulation of the individual treatment plan. - Treatment through prescribing and monitoring the effectiveness of the full range of available psychotropic medication. - Participation in the development of the Community Support Plan (CSP) and monitoring the implementation of the recommendations to prepare patients for community living. - Education to patients, their families, hospital and community staff regarding the advances in the diagnosis of treatment of mental illness. The Department of Medicine consists of Family Practice/Internal Medicine and Specialty Consultant Physicians under the leadership of the Chief of Medicine. They provide: - Comprehensive preventive health care services. - Diagnosis of the acute or chronic medical conditions which, at times, may be the cause of the psychiatric symptoms. - Close collaboration with the team members. - Education to patients, families, hospital and community staff about complex medical conditions. - Specialty clinics at Norristown State Hospital campus, including Neurology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Pulmonary and Urology. -Continuity of care when patients require inpatient medical treatment at Mercy Suburban Hospital. PATH (People Acting To Help) - Medical Department - AdultYou will meet privately with a psychiatrist. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who specializes in helping individuals with mental health problems. You will discuss, with your psychiatrist, your concerns and review the difficulties you are experiencing. You will receive a comprehensive evaluation to determine if medications could help to alleviate some of the symptoms you are experiencing. If medication is recommended, you are free to accept or decline the psychiatrist’s recommendation. If you decide to take medications, the psychiatrist becomes a member of your treatment team and will meet with you on a regular basis to monitor your progress and facilitate your recovery. The clinician will help you identify areas in your life that you would like to change and help you develop a plan to make these changes. You will meet regularly and be supported by the clinician as you take actions to bring about these changes. The clinician will arrange for you to see a PATH psychiatrist, if indicated. You will meet with a psychiatrist who will complete an evaluation and may prescribe medication for you. If you meet with a psychiatrist who does not speak Russian, your clinician will also attend the appointment and act as your translator.
