Programs that provide organized opportunities for individuals to pursue their interest in puppets and puppet craft, often through the medium of a club or society which is under the leadership of people who are knowledgeable in the subject. Activities may include workshops, films and lectures on the craft; opportunities to attend and perform puppet shows; and regular meetings at which members meet local puppeteers and enjoy the company of other enthusiasts. Some puppetry clubs may also publish a newsletter or provide access to a library of resources about the craft. Included are Internet-based virtual clubs, WebRings devoted to the subject and clubs where members meet face-to-face.

Spiral Q Puppet Theater - Education Initiative ProgramSpiral Q’s Education Initiative program seeks to create evocative art-making workshops for underserved Philadelphia communities with limited access to the arts. Using cardboard, paint and papier mache, these workshops teach puppetry arts in a way in which all skill levels can participate in a meaningful way. The Initiative’s programs culminate in parades, pageants and performances where people of all different communities create an event expressing identity and reinforcing civic pride. Although the workshops take place mostly in schools, they are open for nursing homes, mental health programs and other adult populations.
