    Center for Resolutions - Mediation ServicesFor Center for Resolutions, Mediation is a voluntary process between two or more parties in conflict searching for an alternative to the traditional court system. The Center's mediators serve as a neutral third party who works towards bridging the gap between those in conflict. While mediators don’t serve as a judge, lawyer, or arbitrator, they help the disputants understand each other’s point of view and help the disputants create a mutual agreement. The mediator’s role is to create an open space of trust, empathy, and transparency.     Downingtown Area Communities that Care - Parenting Wisely - Community GroupParenting Wisely is a program designed to help families enhance relationships and decrease conflict. Formatted on CD-ROM, this interactive program can be used individually with complete confidentiality or in group settings. Issues addressed by the program include: parent/child communication skills, problem solving skills, assertive discipline, appropriate supervision of children who are spending time with peers who are a bad influence, achieving chore and homework compliance while keeping the family peace, and other issues. Used by individuals, the self-paced format allow parents to work through the material in just 2 to 3 hours. Groups may also utilize this material as a springboard into discussion. This curriculum has been used by individuals, parenting groups, churches, and various community organizations. Each participant will be issued a workbook to keep as a reference.     Office for Dispute ResolutionODR administers the mediation and due process procedures available for special education disputes. A Hearing Officer Settlement Conference (Hosc) is a service where parties who are close to a resolution, but have identifiable roadblocks, can collaborate with a sitting hearing officer to see if those roadblocks can be overcome before a hearing. In addition, ODR offers a creating agreement training to parents and schools. IEP Facilitation is also available through ODR.
