    Guillain-Barre Syndrome/Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy Foundation International - Support ServicesAlthough most people recover from GBS and CIDP, the duration of the illness is unpredictable and often months of hospital care are required. Thus, both patient and family undergo the emotional trauma of an uncertain future, not knowing if and when recovery will occur. To assist patients and their families to cope with GBS/CIDP, the Foundation provides emotional support to patients and their loved ones. Support Services include: - Personal visits, when possible, by former patients to those currently in hospitals and rehabilitation centers. - Supplies literature and educational material, including a comprehensive 70-page booklet entitled "An Overview for the Layperson" so patients and families can learn what to expect during the illness, as well as Guidebooks for Caregivers, and for children with GBS. Domiciliary Care, long term Care Assessments and Caregiver Support Program available for persons 18 years and older.     SpiriTrust Lutheran® Senior Companion ProgramIn-home Services to Help Older Adults Remain in their Own Home and Connected to their Community. Through the Senior Companion Program the lives of volunteer companions and individuals in York County who are home bound and need limited assistance to live independently are mutually enriched. The program is designed for financially qualified individuals aged 55 or older with access to transportation who want to augment their income while helping others 15 hours per week. Volunteers receive a tax free stipend, mileage reimbursement and vacation and sick leave. In addition, they receive 40 hours of paid orientation and training, plus monthly in-service trainings to enhance the volunteer experience. Homemaker Services: When the care of the home becomes too much for the elderly or disabled individual, homemaker, meal, laundry, and errand support is available. Through this program Certified Home Care Aides assist with food shopping, meal preparation, laundry, general errands, and light housekeeping. This service is often packaged with Personal Care Assistance. Respite Services - Trusted Support and a Break: Respite Services offer Care for the Caregiver by providing a much needed break to enjoy family activities, pursue personal interests, relax for awhile or attend to family errands and personal responsibilities. Through this service, Certified Home Care Aides may provide personal care, homemaker services or companion services. Respite services affirm and encourage the primary caregivers and help them return to care giving with confidence, knowledge and a new energy.
