Adult Care of Chester County - Therapeutic ActivitiesAdult Care of Chester County believes that a comprehensive adult day services program includes services specific to the strengths and needs of the people attending. That includes nursing oversight, medication administration, and other skilled nursing services that match the needs of each individual. It includes assistance with activities of daily living at the appropriate level for each person attending. It includes therapeutic activities that are carried out with modifications to match the abilities of each person in the group. It includes a full-time music therapist on staff to provide music therapy and development or enhancement of hidden talents and interests. Eldergarden is designed to improve the quality of life of individuals with functional impairments. There are many benefits to a day services program; specifically, the program allows individuals to remain in their own homes and provides relief for caregivers. Functional Skills Training Each program participant who attends the adult training facility (ATF) has goals to target specific areas of training, which are developed by the interdisciplinary team. These goals aid individuals in achieving their highest level of independence and environmental control. Training focuses on the following areas, based on an individual's needs and preferences. Some areas of training may overlap to increase independence in all aspects of their lives. Pet therapy Sensory Stimulation Fine motor skills Money management Household skills Community awareness and integration Socialization Recreation/leisure Activities of daily living Hygiene/grooming skills Street and safety awareness Arts and crafts Computer use Academics Music therapy/Community Connections Choir Exercise/healthy living Communication Community Integration Community integration is accomplished in conjunction with functional skills training. Program participants may learn shopping skills or daily living skills in a practical setting through weekly trips to local stores within the immediate community. Inclusion is promoted through volunteer efforts, including delivering Meals-on-Wheels, volunteering at local animal shelters, or cleaning up local parks and playgrounds. These activities are designed to give the community a chance to meet and interact with the ATF program participants. Community Supports Option Also provides entirely community based programing to those seeing a non-traditional setting. The CSO staff to consumer ratio is 1:3. The individuals participating in this program do not attend a facility based program. Their activities are carried out in the community 5 days a week.     Beaver County Office on Aging Department Services ListHome Safe Home provides accessibility assessments and projects such as grab bars, ramps, and stair glides. cost of projects may have a co-pay. Call Personal Care and Home Health Services* These services provide in-home assistance with activities of daily living, such as bathing, grooming, and mobility for persons with chronic health problems. Homemaker Service* For those receiving personal care services from BCOA, shopping, laundry, light housekeeping and other services may be available when health problems prevent maintenance of household activities. Respite Care* Respite care service provides relief to families caring for and living with an elderly homebound person for up to four hours a week and can provide personal care if needed. Adult Daily Living* Provides day programs for the frail elderly with physical and/ or mental impairment. Provides respite for family caregivers. Day Care centers are open daily and provide supervision, meals, and activity. Transportation (724)728-4255 Beaver County residents age 60 years and older may utilize Beaver County Transit Authorities' DART system. This is a demand and response transportation system offering door-to-door service for passengers. Reservations must be made in advance by calling BCTA. There is a co-pay for every trip. It provides assistance with minor home repairs. The consumer must pay for supplies. Ombudsman Service The ombudsman investigates and resolves complaints made by or on behalf of residents in nursing homes, personal care boarding homes and Domiciliary care homes. Complaints may include any issue that affects the health, safety, welfare and rights of a resident. Staff and volunteers also perform visits to area facilities. Special Features The Main Line Adult Day Center is located in the Foerder House, a modernized two-story house, which offers participants and their caregivers a more intimate, personalized setting.
