    Programs that provide instruction for individuals who want to develop the knowledge and skills that will enable them to respond effectively to aquatic emergencies. Training includes surveillance skills, rescue skills, first aid and CPR, and professional lifeguarding responsibilities such as appropriate interaction with the public and managing uncoopertive patrons. Most programs require that participants pass a 500 yard swim using crawl, side and back strokes; and demonstrate rescue skills. Certificates are provided to people who successfully complete the course.

    CPR, First Aid, Lifeguard and WSI TrainingLifeguard Training - American Red Cross Lifeguarding Program trains prospective guards with the skills and knowledge necessary to help patrons of the aquatic facilities. This program includes the lifeguard course with aquatic specific First Aid, CPR and AED training. The course includes a book and resuscitation mask. All students must be at least 15 years of age by last day of the course, no exceptions. Attendance at all classes is required for certification. Please contact Emily Miller, if you are interested in a lifeguard class emily@waynesboroymca.org. CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer - American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer will train responders in breathing and cardiac emergencies for adult, children and infants. First Aid - The purpose of the American Red Cross First Aid course is to give individuals the knowledge and skills needed to recognize and provide basic first aid care for injuries and sudden illness until advanced medical personnel arrive.
