    Crime Victim SupportAccompaniment: A VWAP advocate accompanies you to any and all court proceedings, meetings and interviews with law enforcement, hospital visits, meetings with attorney's etc. Advocacy: VWAP is your voice in and throughout the entire criminal justice system advocating on behalf of you and your rights every step of the way. Case Status Update: VWAP updates you of every action that occurs in your case via written correspondence and phone contact. Courtroom Orientation: VWAP walks you through the courtroom experience with a training video, kid's court programs and one-on-one sessions with an advocate. Creditor / Employer / School Intercession: VWAP advocates on your behalf with creditors, employers, schools or whomever else when needed. Crisis Intervention: VWAP offers a 24-hour hotline for any and all clients in immediate need of assistance. Early Outreach: VWAP makes every attempt to contact you within 10 days of the crime that was committed against you providing we have the police report or information from the courts. Child Care & Transportation: VWAP assists with childcare and transportation needs during your time at court proceedings when you are unable to find alternative means. Information & Referral: VWAP provides you with all information regarding your rights, the criminal justice system and much more. We will make appropriate referrals when necessary.     District Attorney, Row Officers - York CountyARD Program: The ARD Program (Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition) is a pre-trial diversionary program administered by the District Attorney's Office. After the preliminary hearing is held or waived a defendant may file an application in the District Attorney's Office. Private Complaints: With the exception of private bad check complaints, the District Attorney's office must approve all Private Complaints involving either a misdemeanor or felony. A private complaint is one brought by a citizen either without police involvement or where the police declined to get involved. Private Summary citations (minor offenses such as harassment) which are not accepted by a Magisterial District Justice also require approval by the District Attorney. Victim/Witness Assistance: It is the responsibility of the Victim/Witness Unit to ensure that victims are provided the rights as defined under the Prosecutor's Responsibilities of the Crime Victims Bill of Rights (Act 111 of 1998). PA SAVIN: The Statewide Automated Victim Information and Notification System (SAVIN) is available to anyone who wants to know when an inmate is released from a county or state prison.     Legal Advocacy - Women In NeedProvides advocacy and accompaniment through the criminal and civil court system. In criminal court, WIN Legal Advocates assist victims as they go through different court proceedings, explaining court procedures and informing them about the progress of their case. The Legal Advocates can also assist victims through the criminal process by accompanying them to the Police Department and/or District Attorney's Office. In addition to criminal court accompaniment, Legal Advocates are also available to assist victims of abuse in completing a Protection from Abuse Order, or PFA.     Office of Victims' Services, Victims Compensation Assistance ProgramProvides financial assistance to victims of crime and their families who have suffered an out-of-pocket loss as a direct result of a crime. Compensation benefits could include: medical expenses, loss of earnings, stolen benefit cash, funeral expenses, loss of support (homicide cases only), crime-scene cleanup expenses, relocation expenses and counseling expenses. The Victims Compensation Assistance Program is regarded as the "payor of last resort", all other sources including medical, auto and homeowner/renter's insurance must be utilized before compensation can be considered. Eligibility requirements include but are not limited to: the crime must occur in Pennsylvania; the crime must be reported to the proper authorities within 72 hours (special exceptions for child victim); the victim must cooperate with law enforcement, the courts and the Program; the victim must not have been engaged in illegal activity that caused the crime and the minimum loss requirement of $100 (victims under age 60, victims age 60 and over there is no minimum loss requirement) in eligible benefits must be met and a claim must be filed no later than two years after the occurrence of the crime.     Women Organized Against Rape - Court AdvocatesWOAR’s Court Advocates are trained to be helpful to child and adult sexual abuse and sexual assault survivors at all stages of the court process. The courtroom can be confusing and frightening and court procedures hard to understand. The WOAR Court Advocates provide court accompaniment, emotional support, legal information and advocacy. In some cases, family members of the victim/witness may be sequestered (removed from the courtroom) during the testimony of the victim/witness. The anxiety and stress of being away from the witness can be lessened knowing that she or he has the comforting and caring presence of the WOAR Court Advocates. The WOAR Court Advocates and the Assistant District Attorney (ADA) work together to reassure and support the child, teen, or adult survivor.
