Programs that are responsible for the determination, assessment and collection of taxes, special assessments and other monies that are owed to local, state and federal jurisdictions by taxpayers. These groups prepare analyses of taxes, tax characteristics and tax proposals that serve as the basis for tax policy; ensure that taxpayers have the most current information regarding their tax obligations and their rights; review tax returns; pursue unpaid taxes; and respond to complaints from taxpayers.

Lancaster County Property Assessment OfficeEstablishes the assessed value of all properties located in Lancaster County for local property tax purposes. A complete countywide assessment is conducted every eight years. Lancaster County Tax Collection BureauCollects the 1% Earned Income Tax from employers and redistributes the proceeds to the local school districts and municipalities in Lancaster County. Mifflin County Department of Tax ServicesThe County Department of Tax Services maintains real estate records and lists of residents for the use of local taxing bodies. It pulls and classifies information from real estate transactions for the State on a monthly basis for Pennsylvania’s school subsidy program. This office examines documents and performs work in the field to keep the tax rolls up to date on over 25,000 parcels of land and 30,000 persons.
