Description of Service
The Youth Intervention Center is comprised of two distinct entities, the juvenile detention center, with a 48 bed capacity and the juvenile shelter care program, with a 36 bed capacity.
Detention Program:
- Serves male and female juveniles from 10 to 18 years, awaiting Court review for disposition, adjudication, or other Court action
- Works to stabilize residents through structure with educational and psycho-educational activities
- Teaches basic academic circles while fostering positive attitudes to school and learning
- Psycho-educational program includes: Fatherhood Initiative, drug/alcohol groups, victimization awareness groups, self-esteem and anger management classes
- Assessments provided: educational, mental health, drug/alcohol
Shelter Care Program
-Provides temporary and emergency care for alleged and adjudicated dependent and delinquent juveniles
-Provides professional therapeutic and supportive services to families and juvenile
-Serves 24 males/females from 10 to 18 years
-Residents participate in emotional, physical and intellectually therapeutic activities
-Uses intense case management to identify needs and provide appropriate resources/services and family therapy
-Provides psycho-educational programs in drug/alcohol, victimization awareness, self-esteem and anger management
-Provides assessments in: education, mental health, drug/alcohol by Caseworkers to develop reports for the Court
