Description of Service
Provides the following direct services to individuals:
- Assists in processing passports and provides naturalization information and conducts ceremonies
- Receives petitions for name changes
- Maintains divorce records
- Files prepared custody documents
- Receives civil claims of over $8,000. Refers claims to court or arbitration. Smaller claims may be handled by Magisterial District Judges
- Provides certification of notaries
Other services include:
- Recording of civil proceedings, including accidental death, injuries, contract disputes, repossession of goods, land damage, appeals, evictions, collisions and divorces
- Signing and sealing of writs, certification and delivery of appealed cases to higher courts
-Appointment of arbitrators when appropriate (Any case under $50,000 must be referred to arbitration)
- Recording and filing of liens (including Public Assistance liens), naturalization papers, school audits, financial statements, divorces, suspension of operators' licenses and mortgage foreclosures
- Issuing of divorce certificates and filing judgment notes
- File of road dockets
