General Information
Description of ServiceAdministers a range of supportive services and programs for residents of Pennsylvania. Programs include cash assistance programs such as Temporary Assistance to Needy Families, or TANF; employment and training programs; the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP; home heating assistance; and assistance programs for refugees and the homeless.

The DPW's services for individuals and families are delivered directly through the County Assistance Offices. Seven program offices administer and oversee the department's work throughout the commonwealth.

* The Office of Administration (OA) plans, directs, and coordinates administrative support activities for DPW.
* The Office of Child Development and Early Learning (OCDEL) is focused on creating opportunities for the commonwealth's youngest children to develop to their fullest potential.
* The Office of Children, Youth and Families (OCYF) oversees child welfare and juvenile justice services.
* The Office of Developmental Programs (ODP) provides individuals with mental retardation, autism, and their families the services and supports they need to enable them to participate fully in the life of their communities.
* The Office of Income Maintenance (OIM) administers the TANF cash assistance program, Medicaid/Medical Assistance, food stamps, child support, home heating assistance (LIHEAP program) and employment and training services.
* The Office of Long Term Living provides assistance with daily activities due to aging, injury, illness or disability.
* The Office of Medical Assistance Programs administers the joint state/federal Medical Assistance (also known as Medicaid) program.
* The Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (OMHSAS) oversees services for individuals with serious mental illness and/or addictive disease.
