General Information
Description of ServiceYouth Aid Panels provide a restorative response to juvenile crime by involving the victim, offender and community. The Youth Aid Panel provides an alternative to juvenile court. The panel is a group of six trained volunteers who enter into a contract with first-time juvenile offenders. The contract allows the individual to make amends for a crime in exchange for wiping the offense off his or her permanent record. The offense must be a non-violent one. Juveniles must make an unconditional admission of guilt and perform an act of retribution such as community service, participating in rehabilitation and awareness seminar or writing an essay. Failure to fulfill the contract will result in the case being sent to juvenile court.
