General Information
Description of ServiceProvides free civil legal services to low income individuals and families without the means to hire a private attorney. Provides representation to survivors of domestic violence in Protection from Abuse (PFA) proceedings. May provide direct representation, advice, assistance in self-representation, brief service, limited legal assistance or referral to a private attorney (including free and reduced-fee), depending on case. Provides community education on legal topics.

While NLSA does not provide assistance with Veterans' Benefits, they can provide legal assistance to eligible veterans who are having problems with their housing, utilities, or other issues within NLSA's priorities.

Intake ProcedureApplications on-line at https://nlsa.us/ are preferred by using the “Get Legal Help” link in the upper right corner of the page. Calls or walk-ins are also accepted: Call between 9 a.m. to noon or walk-in between 9 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
Additional RequirementsMust be a US citizen or a documented immigrant. Not all documented immigrants are serviced.
Documents RequiredProof of documented immigration status if it applies.
Helpful TipsWalk-ins may access services in New Castle, Bridgewater, or Pittsburgh for physical sites but Butler clients can call to ask for services by telephone as well.
