Description of Service
Functional Family Therapy is an outcome-driven, nationally and internationally utilized, family-based approach to working with youth with behavioral health needs who display disruptive conduct and a range of deliquent or other maladaptive behaviors. Utilizes specific techniques to engage and motivate families and especially deals with the intense negative affect (anger, hopelessness) that prevents change. Additional phases and techniques improve family communication and conflict resolution, problem solving skills and provides them with better access to other system resources.
Referrals from: Northampton and Lehigh County Children Youth and Family Services, Northampton County Juvenile Probation, schools, hospitals, other community agencies, self-referral
Families who have an at risk youth between the ages of 10-18 who have a mental health diagnosis (MA funded clients only). Child must be exhibiting or is at risk for Conduct Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Disruptive Behavior Disorder, substance abuse, delinquency or violence. Families must agree to participate in services.
