Description of Service
Through the Specialized Service program, we offer transportation to medical appointments and essential community resources.
This is a door-to-door service insuring the visually impaired person reaches their destination and returns home safely.
If necessary, the driver will escort the client to their appointment and help them read and complete any necessary forms. In addition, we provide transportation to our low vision and diabetic support groups that are held once a month.
Our support services encompass a variety of activities from organizing shopping lists and household items to reading mail and assisting the client to pay bills. We may refer clients to other agencies that can provide them with additional needed services.
We help our clients adjust to vision loss by helping them with everyday tasks; such as, putting a white plate on a dark colored place mat or organizing their canned goods if they cannot read the labels.
Our monthly meetings are open to the public and inform the participants of ways to understand, compensate for and adjust to their vision loss and help them maintain their independence.
