Description of Service
VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System's Vocational Services program provides a variety of services to help veterans return to competitive employment or a useful place in society.
The Vocational Service Program provides a variety of employment services to veterans.
Evaluation Services consisting of both standardized psychometric testing, job simulation and other situation-specific opportunities are available to assess the veteran's skill levels, aptitudes, abilities, and interests. Job Seeking and Job Survival Skills Training include one-on-one counseling for developing effective employment strategies. Situation specific, personalized solutions for applications, resumes, job search, interviewing techniques, correspondence, telephone contact and follow-up are always available to any veteran seeking employment.
Services and programs include:

Exploration of additional info and referrals:
Unclaimed VA benefits,
Public/private sector support,
Assistance in locating and maintaining competitive community employment for veterans with serious mental illness,
Regular and ongoing employee support, job training assistance (as needed), job coaching advocacy.
Contracted work situations,
Homeless veteran supported employment program:
Opportunities to develop and improve prevocational skills for both inpatients and outpatpatients,
Participants work in a variety of medical center settings providing supportive services.
Compensated work therapy/transitional residency:
Work-based mental health and residential rehabilitation treatment program,
Provides a rehabilitation-focused residential setting for veterans recovering from chronic mental illness, chemical dependency and homelessness,
Combines a residential therapeutic community of peer and professional support, with a strong emphasis on increasing personal responsibility.
