Description of Service
VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System's Transplant Program Coordinator's primary focus is social work to help veterans achieve the goal of a successful transplant.
This includes helping the veteran and their families to understand the non-medical problems, challenges„ and changes that transplant brings. The transplant social worker provides support, education, and counseling throughout the transplant process and completes a thorough psychosocial evaluation of the candidate’s emotional, social, housing and financial resources that may adequately support or not support a successful transplant. They counsel the veterans and their families before, during and after the transplant.
The transplant social worker is an important member of the transplant team, attending transplant clinics, selection committee meetings and multidisciplinary meetings. It is also the responsibility of the transplant social worker to arrange lodging in the community for both the veteran and their families and to keep monthly lodging reports.
Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm
