Description of Service
Educational Pathways connect opportunities for skill development and career advancement to training and education. Created in conjunction with employers and educational institutions, these pathways have a positive impact on recruitment, retention and quality of care.
Educational Pathways meet employer needs since they reduce costs incurred by employers as a result of high turnover, which results in loss of productivity, overtime costs, disruption of operations and compromised quality of care. The impact of these factors on quality of care include poor patient outcomes, increased length of stay and operating costs, decreased capacity, increased malpractice liability, decreased patient satisfaction, and lowered employee satisfaction.
The Educational Pathway strategy helps employers with recruitment and retention since workers want to work where they are valued, receive core and specialty training, and understand that there is room for career advancement. The Educational Pathway model will also have a positive impact on quality of care since the workers’ skills will be enhanced and increased and the workers will feel valued, both of which positively impact quality of care.
