General Information
Description of ServiceWhat is 4-H?
4-H is an organization for young people who want to learn and have fun. Through a variety of 4-H clubs and project experiences, Montgomery County boys and girls "learn by doing", make new friends and participate in activities on the local, county , state and national levels.

What is a 4-H Club?
4-H clubs are groups of five or more young people who meet in local homes, schools, churches, synagogues, libraries, or community centers. 4-H members, guided by adult and team member volunteers, choose their own projects and set their own goals. Leaders help organize club programs and teach projects.

Who supports 4-H and is there any cost?
4-H is administered by Penn State Cooperative Extension with county, state and federal support.
4-H is also assisted locally by individuals, organizations, and businesses. There is a $10 per year educational assessment fee as well as $1.00 fee for club insurance coverage. Scholarships are available based on need.

Who may join 4-H?
Anyone 8-18 years old as of Jan. 1 of the current year may join 4-H. To enroll in a project and a club, young people should have their parents permission and support. Family participation is very important to 4-H. Whether it is leading a group, teaching a project, providing transportation or filling other needs, 4-H relies on family participation.

What is a 4-H Project?
4-H projects are written guides that give information on specific topics such as woodworking, cooking, archery, riflery, rocketry, gardening, sewing, horses, pet care, leadership, Seeing Eye puppy, babysitting, livestock, rabbits, guinea pigs, poultry, careers, and more!
