Description of ServiceVA Pittsburgh Healthcare System (VAPHS) is an integrated health care system that proudly serves the Veteran population throughout the tri-state area of Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia. VAPHS consists of two clinical care facilities in Pittsburgh as well as five community based outpatient clinics.

The University Drive campus serves as the acute care facility and has 146 operating beds distributed among medicine, surgery, neurology and critical care. A range of outpatient services and 78 secure, private psychiatric beds are located in the new Consolidation Building.

The VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System’s University Drive Campus Mood Disorder Clinic (MDC) provides veterans with evaluation and assessment, treatment planning and evidence-based therapies for acute and chronic mood and adjustment disorders.

MDC staff includes nurse practitioners, psychiatrists and psychologists. The services available within the MDC are designed to help veterans be active participants in understanding their mood disorders across their lifespan.

Preconception and prenatal evaluations assists female veterans and their providers with understanding veterans’ current or potential mental health needs during and/or following pregnancy, especially in relation to the management of mood disorders.
