General Information
Description of ServiceMidPenn Legal Services provides free legal services to low income individuals in civil matters. Services include legal advice, negotiations and representation before agencies and courts.

Handled through advice, brief service and/or representation in court:
- Representation of plaintiffs in protection from abuse cases
- Custody (defendants when other party has legal representation and child snatch cases); pro se assistance for parents wishing to file for custody
- Simple Divorce (pro se assistance only)
- Welfare: Medical Assistance and Food Stamps denials, terminations, over payments and reductions
- SSDI/Supplemental Security Income: Denials, terminations and over payments; assistance with initial applications for homeless persons
- Unemployment Compensation denials and overpayments
- Housing: Illegal lockouts and landlord utility shut-offs, public housing/Section 8 eviction hearings, poor housing conditions and evictions, mortgage foreclosure
- Sheriff's Sales: To prevent loss of personal property or house
- Guardianship for incapacitated adults over the age of 60. POA and advanced directives for individuals over the age of 60

Other matters handled through Volunteer Attorney Program (Pro Bono Project) include:
- Consumer problems
- School expulsions or IEP hearings
- Driver's License suspension appeal hearings
