General Information
Description of ProgramProvides safe shelter, food, emergency relief supplies, emotional support and health services to people in need following a disaster like a home fire or flood. Recovering from a disaster can be a confusing, emotionally draining and complicated process. Casework is a critical part of helping families get back on their feet. Red Cross caseworkers connect one-on-one with people to create recovery plans, navigate paperwork and locate help from other agencies. In some situations, the Red Cross may provide direct financial support to people who need extra help. In addition, the Red Cross provides preparedness programs, training classes, checklists and mobile apps; the Red Cross install free smoke alarms and educates the community about home fire safety and fire escape plans; the Red Cross collects, processes and distributes about 40 percent of the nation’s blood supply; the Red Cross provides humanitarian support to military members, veterans and their families around the clock and across the globe under a trusted symbol.
