Description of Program
The department is broken down into four general divisions. The Environmental Education & Outreach Division is perhaps the most readily visible to those who take advantage of the wonderful services and programming offered by the department.
The work of two divisions - the Natural Resource Management & Buildings and Grounds Divisions – focus on overall management of the park system. The Natural Resources Division strives to maintain and improve the ecological environment of the parks. Among its duties, it monitors animal and plant habitats, and works to control invasive species and help with reforestation.
The Buildings and Grounds Division ensures that park facilities are well-maintained and ready for your next visit to the Parks. They are responsible for the maintenance of 29 pavilions, 37 parking lots, 21 sports fields/playgrounds and more than 400 picnic tables scattered throughout 4,300 acres of parkland.
Last, but not least, is the Public Safety Division made up of park rangers. They are responsible for ensuring the safety of all visitors to the parks by enforcing Park regulations. The Rangers are assisted by Park Ambassadors, a group of volunteers that serves as an extra set of eyes and ears for the Rangers.
