Description of Agency
Hospice recognizes dying as a normal process of life. Hospice is a positive support system for those in the last stages of terminal illness and their families. Hospice neither hastens nor postpones death, rather, it promotes the concept of comfort, dignity, and respect for all persons until the moment of death.
To enable patients nearing life's end to live free of pain, symptoms and anxieties and empower them and their families to experience an optimum quality of life
Hospice of Crawford County, Inc. was incorporated in 1984 to enable patients nearing life’s end to live free of pain, symptoms and anxieties and to empower patients and their families to experience an optimum quality of life. The hospice philosophy of care is driven by patient and family wishes and focuses on comfort and care when cure of disease is no longer possible. Hospice of Crawford County, Inc. first began serving our community staffed with nurses from the Visiting Nurse Association. In 1989 we became the first hospice in northwest Pennsylvania to be certified by Medicare. We maintain that certification through today. We are a part of Community Health Services, Inc. and are affiliated with Meadville Medical Center. Hospice of Crawford County, Inc. is the first and only non-profit hospice to service our community.
We have grown and evolved since our inception. In order to better serve both ends of the county as well as neighboring areas outside of the county, an office was opened in Titusville. In 2012 we opened Marquette Hospice House as a place where individuals with life-limiting illness can come together with staff who will support their end-of-life choices with extraordinary care and compassion. Hospice of Crawford County, Inc. is currently staffed with RN’s, LPN’s, CNA’s, Social Workers and Pastoral staff to provide a full complement of services to our community.
Hospice of Crawford County, Inc. has two medical directors to serve patients in both the east and west offices.
