General Information
Description of AgencyInteract is a private, not for profit health and human services agency committed to helping people cope with the problems and stresses of daily living and helping individuals achieve maximum potential and quality of life. Interact addresses the concerns of children, youth, adults, and the aging through the provision of programs which deal with age-related challenges, mental health and substance abuse problems and developmental disabilities. Interact is composed of three service divisions - Aging, Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, and Behavioral Health Services.
MissionIntercommunity Action (Interact) helps people live fulfilling lives by providing resources for Aging, Behavioral Health, and Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. Our vision is Everyone Deserves a Fulfilling Life!
HistoryInteract was formed in 1969 by a small group of community residents who saw a need for behavioral health, mental retardation, and other human services in their community. Despite having few resources other than their own skill and determination, these citizens successfully obtained funding to establish the first free-standing community mental health and mental retardation center in Philadelphia.

Interact’s board of directors has overseen the growth of the agency from a staff of 20 people who provided mental health intake and counseling services to the neediest local residents, to a comprehensive human services agency engaging 200 caring professional and support staff in service to over 3,000 people annually. Interact strives, in all of its programs, to provide the highest possible quality of services, focusing on the strengths, needs and desires of each individual and family.
