Description of Agency
When you’ve being doing one thing for more than 30 years, you get very good at it. Since its founding in 1978, the Anxiety and Agoraphobia Treatment Center has focused primarily on the treatment of anxiety disorders. Starting with Dr. Alan Goldstein’s breakthrough research and treatment of agoraphobia, the center has developed nationally recognized cognitive-behavioral treatment approaches to the entire spectrum of anxiety disorders and general quality-of-life issues. The majority of our therapists have trained in OCD treatment under Dr. Jonathan Grayson, a respected authority on OCD and co-director of the Center from 1995-2009. A staff of eight clinicians treats adults, children, couples, and families with a focus on short-term treatment. Extensive evaluations help the psychologists formulate a specific program to meet each client’s individual needs. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), long recognized as the most effective approach to anxiety disorders, quickly helps clients change the way they feel because it helps change the way they think and act. In addition to CBT, the staff of the Center stays actively involved in the research and development of new treatment approaches and our therapists are trained in mindfulness, hypnotherapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitization/Reprocessing (EMDR), and psychodynamic psychotherapy. When appropriate, we work closely with several area psychiatrists to arrange for medication consultations and/or evaluations.
