YAP's philosophy stems from the premise that every individual and family has strengths and capabilities that can and must be developed. Guiding the development of those strengths are the Core Principles of the Advocate Programs. The principles reflect the agency's ongoing commitment to family-focused programming that empowers youth and families to lead healthy, safe and productive lives. YAP is serving over 2,00 youth/families at any given time. The agency provides child welfare, mental health and juvenile justice systems with cost-effective alternatives to residential, correctional and other out-of-home placements. A significant percentage of clients served are those who have been rejected by other service providers. Our core principles include: individualized service planning, cultural competence, partnership with parents, focus on strengths, team work, community-based care, unconditional care, and corporate and clinical integrity. Since 1975, YAP has been serving youth and families with extremely complex needs and presenting problems. Historically, YAP has targeted children and youth carrying the label "difficult to serve". Today, the Adovcate Programs are providing services in PA, NJ, NY, TX, OH, FL and Washington DC. All programs are non-residential, community-based and family focused.
