Description of Agency
Serves the needy, those in crisis, the elderly, and the disabled in DuBois and surrounding communities. Services: (1) Intervention to assist with solving legal and financial problems and for obtaining other services. (2) No-fee projects such as distribution of used clothing and housewares. (3) Direct aid for emergency needs, e.g. medical needs, prescription help, etc. Rent assistance requires an eviction notice; utility assistance requires a shut-off notice. Requests for food are referred to the local Food Pantry. (4) Eyeglasses program: can provice a complete pair of glasses to a person who has a prescription from an eye doctor. The flat fee is $40.00 per pair for single vision or lined bifocal lenses; $65.00 for unlined lenses. This price includes a choice of frames and the lenses; extras are available at an additional fee. Payment for the glasses must be made when they are ordered; cash only, no checks or credit cards. Agape does not help wit hthe purchase price of these eyeglasses. Office hours Monday-Thursday, 9:00 AM-4:00 PM. The clothing distribution depot is currently on the lower level at the rear of the ABBA Youth Center at West Long Avenue and Washington Avenue.
