Neighborhood Legal Services Association (NLSA) exists to meet the civil legal needs of the poor and vulnerable individuals through effective legal representation and education. NLSA provides legal telephone advice through its Helpline, referrals to the private bar, and direct representation in certain civil matters, including employment law, housing and landlord/tenant problems, public benefits, family law, utilities, unemployment compensation, sheriff sales, mortgage foreclosures and elder law. NLSA helps victims of domestic violence obtain Protection from Abuse orders without regard to income or asset limitations. The Elderly Law Project provides legal services to senior citizens without regard to income or assets. The People's Law Clinic provides advice in evening clinics for persons who are income and asset eligible and have problems with debt (bankruptcy options are covered) or family law issues.
